When Katie-Jane, of Katie-Jane Whitlock Hair, got in touch to show me some images from a boho bridal shoot, I couldn’t wait to share these gorgeous photos with you brides and grooms-to-be! Shot in Bagley Woods in Oxfordshire, photographer Paul Browse has really captured simplicity at it’s finest. A stunning, vintage wedding dress (sourced on Ebay, by the way – amazing find!!), paired with gorgeously natural make up (Kate Burt) and a dramatic forest backdrop, this shoot is so elegantly wild.
Over to Katie-Jane to tell you more about the creative direction behind this styled shoot…
What was your inspiration behind the shoot?
The inspiration was the ‘Bohemian Bride’. We really wanted to go back to nature with this shoot and use simple looks and styles to create something very organic. We knew a forest would be the perfect place to capture the raw beauty of a bride and create amazing lighting. I used the idea of the curly but relaxed hair, inspired by the movie ‘Brave’. A film which gets back to nature itself. I loved the look of the girl’s red, curly hair and wanted to recreate a softer type on our model who had completely straight hair when we started. We chose a vintage dress because we felt the simple shape and style fitted with our theme and didn’t take too much away from the beauty of the bride and the surroundings. I created the headpiece from the foliage around us and some wire. Again, we felt this captured the surroundings. Pink flowers were placed in the headband for some of the shots to bring out the beautiful makeup.
What kinds of brides and grooms do you think the shoot will appeal to?
I hope the shoot will appeal to brides who are seeking a very natural feel to their wedding and their style. A bride who loves the idea of keeping things simple but beautiful. It definitely has a Bochic appeal to it that brides and grooms who love this style will find inspiration from.
What did you enjoy most about the shoot?
The best thing about this shoot was working with my amazing team. Myself, Paul Browse (Photographer) and Kate Burt (Make-up Artist), love bringing our ideas to life. We are all really passionate and focused but we also have a great laugh together. I also loved the forest and the amazing lighting we witnessed throughout the afternoon.
Our little team love creating these types of shoots from start to finish. Myself, Paul and Kate are all part of a group called ‘Bridal Collective’, which helps to market people’s businesses within the wedding industry. We set and style shoots to help companies sell anything from bridal gowns to venues. So if any of your readers would be interested let me know. We would also offer a discount if a bride and groom hired all 3 of us for their big day!
